Arya Samaj Florida Inc.

Namaste All,

As we grow as an organization, we have the opportunities to carry out Swami Dayananda’s mission of giving back to others. As Swami Dayananda's 10th Principle stated, " All persons ought to dedicate themselves necessarily for the social good and the well being of all." This year we embraced the opportunity to help those less fortunate than ourselves at a time when we will be celebrating our great American holiday, Thanksgiving.

We partnered with a great local organization, Riverland Park, City of Fort Lauderdale for a food drive to make sure that we can help families during this time of “giving thanks”. We thank all those who donated and this Friday, November 20th, 2015 we will drop off the items at the organization.

Once again we appreciate your assistance and we are grateful for your help.

The Samaj

The doctrines of the Arya Samaj Movement are summed up in Ten Principles:

1.            God is the primary cause of all true science and of all that can be known through it.

2.            God is Existent, Intelligent and Blissful. He is Formless, Almighty, Just, Merciful, Unborn, Infinite, Unchallengeable, Beginning-less, Incomparable, the Support and Lord of all, Omniscient, Imperishable, Immortal, Fearless, Eternal, Holy and the Creator of the universe. To Him alone worship is due.

3.            The Vedas are scriptures of true knowledge. It is the duty of all Aryas to read them, hear them being read and recite them to others.

4.            All persons should be ready to accept the truth and give up untruth.

5.            All action should be performed in conformity with Dharma that is, after due consideration of the right and wrong.

6.            The primary aim of the Arya Samaj is to do good for all, that is, promote physical, spiritual and social well-being.

7.            All people should be treated with love, fairness and due regard for their merit.

8.            One should aim at dispelling ignorance and promoting knowledge.

9.            One should not only be content with one's own welfare, but should look for it in the welfare for others also.

10.    One should regard oneself under restriction to follow altruistic rulings of society, while all should be free in following the rules of individual welfare.

Swamiji rejected all non-Vedic beliefs altogether. Hence the Arya Samaj unequivocally condemned idolatry, animal sacrifices, ancestor worship, pilgrimages, priest craft, offerings made in temples, the caste system, untouchability and child marriages, on the grounds that all these lacked Vedic sanction. It aimed to be a universal movement based on the authority of the Vedas. Swami Dayananda stated that he wanted ‘to make the whole world Aryan (Noble). That is, he wanted to develop a missionary Hinduism based on the universality of the Vedas.

To this end the Arya Samaj set up schools and missionary organizations, extending its activities outside India. It now has branches around the world.

Our Arya Samaj itself, has a plethora of Pandits, Hindu priests, and many other contributors that give intellectual, religious lectures.

With that said, every Sunday we hold a prayer service that creates an atmosphere fit for our youths as well as ourselves to adhere to.

Each service comprises of:

  • Melodious and harmonic voices of our youths singing elaborate yet sweet Bhajans
  • Certain religious leaders conducting our regular Hawans
  • Pandits/Pandityas (or Pundits) diligently administering a Pravachan (or Lecture)
  • And almost every Sunday there is a delicious Bhojan(Meal) served with love and care.

Our Hawans (Religious Ceremonies) involve the reading of devout Mantras/Sholkas. And some of the main ones are:

Om Bhoor Bhuwah Swah,
Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
Dhiyo Yo Naha Prachodayat.

Summary of the Gayatri Mantra

Gayatri Mantra (the mother of the vedas), the foremost mantra in hinduism and hindu beliefs, inspires wisdom. Its meaning is that "May the Almighty God illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path". The mantra is also a prayer to the "giver of light and life" - the sun (savitur).

Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life,
Remover of pain and sorrow,
The Bestower of happiness,
Oh! Creator of the Universe,
May we receive thy supreme sin-destroying light,
May Thou guide our intellect in the right direction.

Om Asato Maa Sad-Gamaya
Tamaso Maa Jyotir-Gamaya
Mrtyor-Maa Amrtam Gamaya
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih

Lead us from Unreal to the Real, Lead us from the Darkness to the Light, Lead us from the Fear of Death to the Knowledge of Immortality.
Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe
Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan
Mrityor Mukshiya Mamritat

We worship the Almighty
Who is fragrant and who nourishes well all beings,
Even as the cucumber is severed from bondage to the creeper.
